Pemilihan benih
Di bursa pasaran banyak jenis varietas cabe keriting, dari mulai hibrida sampai varietas lokal. Langkah menanam cabe lokal dan hibrida tidak mempunyai perbedaan yang berarti. Hanya saja beberapa cabe hibrida dianjurkan dirawat dengan beberapa product obat-obatan tertentu. Varietas hibrida banyak dihadirkan dari Taiwan dan Thailand, sedang varietas lokal banyak ditanam di Rembang, Kudus, sampai Tanah Karo, Sumatera Utara.
Sekarang ini ada varietas lokal hasil seleksi, produktivitasnya juga lebih baik daripada varietas lokal tanpa ada seleksi. Ben! hnya dijual dalam kemasan kaleng seperti tampar yang di pr0duksi Sang Hyang Sri. Dari sisi teknis, langkah menanam cabe keriting lokal lebih sederhana dan anti repot dibanding langkah menanam cabe hibrida. Cabe lokal lebih adaptif dengan kondisi lingkungan dibanding cabe hibrida. Cuma saja produktivitasnya masih tetap kalah dari hibrida.
Penyemaian benih
Cara menanam cabe dalam polybag sebaiknya tidak segera dikerjakan dari ben! h atau biji.
Pertama-tama ben! h cabe harus disemaikan lebih dulu. System penyemaian ini manfaatnya untuk menyeleksi perubahan ben! h, memisahkan ben! h yang tumbuhnya kerd! l, c4cat atau berpenyakit. Selain itu juga untuk menunggu kesiapan bibit sampai cukup tahan ditanam di tempat yang semakin besar.
Tempat persemaian bisa berupa polybag ukuran kecil (8×9 cm), daun pisang, baki (tray) persemaian, atau petakan tanah.
Buat petakan tanah dengan ukuran seadanya, campur kompos dengan tanah lalu aduk sampai rata. Butiran tanah di buat seh4lus mungkin saja agar perakaran bisa menemb`usnya dengan mudah. Buat ketebalan petakan itu 5-10 cm, diatasnya buat larikan dengan jarak 10 cm.
Masukan ben! h cabe dalam larikan dengan jarak 7, 5 cm lalu siram untuk membasahi tanah dan tutup dengan abu atau tanah. Lalu tutup dengan karung goni basah selama 3-4 hari, pertahankan supaya karung goni tetaplah basah. Pada hari ke-4 akan tampak bibit dari permukaan tanah, lalu buka karung goni. Sebaiknya petakan ditudungi dengan plastik transp4ran buat perlindungan bibit cabe yang masih tetap kecil dari panas berlebihan dan siraman air hujan langsung. Tanaman cabe siap dipindahkan ke polybag besar sesudah berumur 3-4 minggu, atau tanaman telah mempunyai 3-4 helai daun.

Tentukan polybag yang memiliki ukuran di atas 30 cm, agar media tanam cukup ku4t menyangga perubahan tanaman cabe yang rimbun. Selain polybag, dapatkah dipakai pot dari jenis plastik, semen, tanah, atau keramik. Atau dapat pula memakai wadah-wadah sisa yg tidak terpakai lagi, berikan lubang pada dasar wadah untuk saluran dr4inase.
Cara menanam cabe dalam polybag dapat memakai media tanam dari campuran tanah, kompos, pupuk kandang, sekam padi, arang sekam, dan lain-lainnya. Silakan baca langkah buat media tanam polybag untuk informasi lebih detil.
Beberapa contoh komposisi media tanam satu diantaranya yaitu (1) Campuran tanah dengan kompos dengan komposisi 2 : 1, (2) Campuran tanah, pupuk kandang, dan arang sekam dengan komposisi 1 : 1 : 1, atau (3) Campuran tanah dan pupuk kandang dengan komposisi 2 : 1. Apabila memakai pupuk kandang, sebaiknya tentukan pupuk yang telah masak.
Buat media tanam seh4lus mungkin saja melalui langkah mengayaknya. Campur sekitaran 3 sendok NPK dalam setiap polybag. Aduk sampai paduan itu benar-benar rata. Pemindahan bibit
Setelah bibit tanaman dan media tanam siap, pindahkan bibit tanaman cabe dari tempat persemaian dalam polybag. Lakukan pekerjaan ini waktu pagi hari atau sore hari, di mana matahari tidak terlalu terik untuk hindarkan str3s pada tanaman.
Lakukan perpindahan bibit dengan hati-hati, jangan sampai terjadi rusaknya pada perakaran tanaman. Buat lub4ng tanam pada polybag sedalam 5-7 cm. Apabila persemaian ditangani diatas polybag atau daun pisang, copot polybag dan daun pisang lalu masukan semua tanah dalam tempat persemaian dalam lub4ng tanam. Apabila persemaian dikerjakan diatas petak tanah atau tray, pindahkan dengan tanah yang menempel pada perakaran serta masukan dalam lub4ng tanam.
Pemeliharaan dan perawatan
Pemupukan, berikanlah pemupukan memberikan dengan d0sis satu sendok makan NPK per polybag setiap bulannya. Atau apabila menginginkan menanam cabe lewat cara organik, sebagai gantinya sempr0tkan pupuk organik cair ketika perubahan daun dan pergantian buah. Tambahkan satu kepal kompos atau pupuk kandang kambing waktu tanaman menginginkan berbuah.
Penyiraman, tanaman cabe sebaiknya disiram sekurang-kurangnya 3 hari sekali. Apabila matahari bersinar terik, siram tanaman setiap hari.
Pengajiran, sesudah tanaman cabe tumbuh sekitaran 20 cm, tambahkan ajir bambu. Ajir ini bermanfaat untuk menopang tanaman agar berdiri tegak.
Per0mpesan, tunas-tunas muda yang tumbuh di ketiak daun sebaiknya di hilangkan (dir0mpes). Per0mpesan dimulai pada hari ke-20 setelah tanam, per0mpesan umumnya dilakukan tiga kali sampai terbentuknya cabang. Manfaatnya supaya tanaman tidak tumbuh kesamping waktu batang belum begitu ku4t menopang.
Hama dan penyakit, penggunaan pestisid4 sebaiknya cuma ditangani apabila tanaman tampak terser4ng hama atau sakit. Apabila terlihat ada hama putih semprot dengan pestid4, bila terlihat ada akan ulat semprot dengan insektisid4 seadanya, jika terlihat jamur pakai fungisid4. Pemanenan
Umur cabe dari mulai tanam sampai panen bermacam tergantung jenis varietas dan lingkungan. Saat panen paling baik yaitu waktu buah belum seutuhnya berwarna merah, masih tetap ada garis hijaunya. Buah seperti ini sudah masuk b0b0t yang maksimal dan buah cabe masih tetap dapat tahan 2-3 hari lebih dahulu terjual oleh pedagang di pasar. Saat panen sebaiknya ditangani waktu pagi hari sesudah embun kering. Jauhi waktu panen saat malam dan siang hari.
