Ini yang mendorongnya untuk mempelajari logika sains di balik fenomena alam. Ia mempelajari asal-muasal air dan pembentukan awan. Ia membuat buku tentang batu dan mineral serta meteorology. Ia mencari tahu bagaimana gunung terbentuk dan juga penyebab gempa bumi.
4. Az Zahrawi Sang Dokter Bedah
Az Zahrawi bapak dokter bedah anak ingin jadi dokter bedah? Tahukah dia siapa yang merancang pisau bedah, bor, gunting, dan 200 lebih alat bedah yang masih digunakan sampai sekarang?
Al Zahrawi adalah dokter bedah yang merancang banyak peralatan bedah pada abad ke-10. Hasil temuannya ini masih digunakan hanya dengan sedikit perubahan.
Buku Al Zahrawi yang berjudul Al Tasrif diterjemahkan oleh Barat dan menjadi panduan operasi di sekolah-sekolah kedokteran selama berabad-abad.
5. Fathimah Al Fitri, Ibu Pendiri Universitas
Universitas pertama di dunia diciptakan oleh Fathimah Al Fitri, seorang muslimah. Emansipasi wanita baru ada di Barat abad 19.
Sementara sejak Islam lahir, kaum wanita sudah menjadi orang yang terpelajar dan terpandang. Contohnya saja Aisyah binti Abu Bakar. Beliau merupakan salah satu orang yang paling banyak ditanya tentang masalah kehidupan sehari-hari. Bukan hanya oleh wanita, banyak laki-laki yang mengonsultasikan masalah padanya.
Tidak heran kalau 200 tahun kemudian, Fathimah Al Fitri bisa membuat universitas modern pertama di dunia. Universitas ini ada di kompleks masjid Al Qawariyin di Fez, Maroko. Sementara adiknya Maryam membuat universitas di Andalusia, Spanyol.
Kedua universitas ini menjadi kiblat bagi dunia pendidikan modern. Bahkan pakaian mahasiswa ala Fathimah Al Fitri masih dipakai sampai sekarang. Toga yang berbentuk segi empat merupakan simbol dari Kabah. []
