Pada hakikatnya hidup berumah tangga merupakan salah satu cara untuk memperoleh pahala bagi pasangan suami istri. Segala sesuatu yang dilakukan dengan niat beribadah kepada Allah, akan mendapatkan balasan dari-Nya. Salah satunya mengenai kewajiban suami untuk memberikan nafkah kepada istrinya. Baik berupa nafkah keperluan sehari-hari maupun nafkah khusus bagi sang istri. Dan ternyata kewajiban suami untuk memberikan nafkah kepada istrinya merupakan sebuah ibadah yang paling besar pahalanya bila dibandingkan dengan membelanjakan harta saat perang di jalan Allah.
Rasulullah SAW bersabda bahwa,
“Satu dinar yang engkau belanjakan untuk perang di jalan Allah SWT dan satu dinar yang engkau belanjakan untuk istrimu, maka yang paling besar pahalanya ialah apa yang engkau berikan kepada istrimu.” (HR. Bukhari-Muslim)
Hadist diatas menjelaskan bahwa sebelum seorang suami menyedekahkan harta nya untuk perjuangan Islam, lebih utamakanlah terlebih dahulu untuk menafkahi keluarga. Sehingga anak dan istri tidak terlantar ketika suami sibuk berjuang di jalan Allah.
Kewajiban suami untuk memberikan nafkah kepada istrinya terdapat dalam Al-Qur’an surat An Nisa ayat 34-37. Allah SWT berfiman bahwa, Kaum laki-laki itu adalah pemimpin bagi kaum wanita, oleh karena Allah telah melebihkan sebahagian mereka (laki-laki) atas sebahagian yang lain (wanita), dan Karena mereka (laki-laki) telah menafkahkan sebagian dari harta mereka. Sebab itu maka wanita yang shaleh, ialah yang taat kepada Allah lagi memelihara diri ketika suaminya tidak ada, oleh karena Allah telah memelihara (mereka). Wanita-wanita yang kamu khawatirkan nusyuznya, maka nasehatilah mereka dan pisahkanlah mereka di tempat tidur mereka, dan pukulah mereka. Kemudian jika mereka mentaatimu, maka janganlah kamu mencari-cari jalan untuk menyusahkannya. Sesungguhnya Allah Maha Tinggi lagi Maha Besar.” (QS. An Nisa :34-37)
Nafkah yang diberikan seorang suami kepada istri tidaklah bernilai sia-sia di mata Allah. Bahkan hal itu terhitung sebagai amalan sedekahnya, sebagaimana dikatakan dalam hadist dari Abu Mas’ud Al-Anshari bahwa Rasulullah SAW bersabda,
“Apabila seorang muslim memberikan nafkah kepada keluarganya dan dia mengharapkan pahala dengannya maka nafkah tadi dianggap sebagai sedekahnya.” (HR. Bukhari-Muslim)
Begitu besarnya perhatian Rasulullah terhadap hak kaum hawa, sehingga beliau mengajarkan kaum lelaki untuk memuliakan istrinya. Dan Beliau amat sangat membenci seorang suami yang menelantarkan istri dan keluarganya serta bersifat kikir dalam memberikan nafkah bagi keluarganya. Bahkan satu suapan yang diberikan oleh seorang suami kepada istrinya dianggap sebagai amalan sedekah sang suami. Seperti yang disabdakan Rasulullah kepada sahabatnya, Sa’ad bin Abi Waqqash bahwa,
“Dan apa pun yang engkau nafkahkan maka itu teranggap sebagai sedekah bagimu sampai kepada suapan yang engkau berikan ke mulut istrimu.” (HR. Al-Bukhari)
Sungguh mulia seorang suami yang memberikan nafkah kepada istrinya dan tidak menelantarkan keluarganya meski dalam keadaan yang sulit sekalipun. Karena pada hakikatnya sekecil apapun pemberian suami kepada istri dan keluarganya bernilai besar di hadapan Allah. Dan ini merupakan ibadah yang paling besar pahalanya .
Rasulullah SAW bersabda bahwa,
“Satu dinar yang engkau belanjakan untuk perang di jalan Allah SWT dan satu dinar yang engkau belanjakan untuk istrimu, maka yang paling besar pahalanya ialah apa yang engkau berikan kepada istrimu.” (HR. Bukhari-Muslim)
Hadist diatas menjelaskan bahwa sebelum seorang suami menyedekahkan harta nya untuk perjuangan Islam, lebih utamakanlah terlebih dahulu untuk menafkahi keluarga. Sehingga anak dan istri tidak terlantar ketika suami sibuk berjuang di jalan Allah.
Kewajiban suami untuk memberikan nafkah kepada istrinya terdapat dalam Al-Qur’an surat An Nisa ayat 34-37. Allah SWT berfiman bahwa, Kaum laki-laki itu adalah pemimpin bagi kaum wanita, oleh karena Allah telah melebihkan sebahagian mereka (laki-laki) atas sebahagian yang lain (wanita), dan Karena mereka (laki-laki) telah menafkahkan sebagian dari harta mereka. Sebab itu maka wanita yang shaleh, ialah yang taat kepada Allah lagi memelihara diri ketika suaminya tidak ada, oleh karena Allah telah memelihara (mereka). Wanita-wanita yang kamu khawatirkan nusyuznya, maka nasehatilah mereka dan pisahkanlah mereka di tempat tidur mereka, dan pukulah mereka. Kemudian jika mereka mentaatimu, maka janganlah kamu mencari-cari jalan untuk menyusahkannya. Sesungguhnya Allah Maha Tinggi lagi Maha Besar.” (QS. An Nisa :34-37)
Nafkah yang diberikan seorang suami kepada istri tidaklah bernilai sia-sia di mata Allah. Bahkan hal itu terhitung sebagai amalan sedekahnya, sebagaimana dikatakan dalam hadist dari Abu Mas’ud Al-Anshari bahwa Rasulullah SAW bersabda,
“Apabila seorang muslim memberikan nafkah kepada keluarganya dan dia mengharapkan pahala dengannya maka nafkah tadi dianggap sebagai sedekahnya.” (HR. Bukhari-Muslim)
Begitu besarnya perhatian Rasulullah terhadap hak kaum hawa, sehingga beliau mengajarkan kaum lelaki untuk memuliakan istrinya. Dan Beliau amat sangat membenci seorang suami yang menelantarkan istri dan keluarganya serta bersifat kikir dalam memberikan nafkah bagi keluarganya.
