Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam adalah manusia yang paling ridha terhadap takdir Allah. Beliau adalah teladan, bagaimana selayaknya seseorang bersikap dalam menghadapi ujian hidup. Tapi, beliau juga memiliki sisi manusia umumnya. Merasakan apa yang dirasakan manusia biasa. Beliau merasakan lapar, sakit, perih karena luka, dan bersedih.
Di antara peristiwa yang membuat Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam sangat bersedih adalah wafatnya paman beliau, Abu Thalib. Terlebih sang paman wafat dalam keadaan masih memegang agama jahiliyah. Abu Thalib adalah kerabat dan orang terdekatnya. Abu Thaliblah yang mengasuh Nabi sejak berusia 8 tahun. Saat sang kakek meninggal hingga Nabi berusia 40-an tahun. Kedekatan yang luar biasa dengan sang paman terjalin sedari kanak-kanak hingga masa kenabian.
Saat Nabi Muhammad menerima wahyu dan mendakwahkannya. Cinta Abu Thalib kepada anak saudaranya itu tak berubah. Walaupun ajaran yang dibawa sang keponakan bertentangan dengan keyakinannya. “Langkahi dulu mayatku, kalau berani mengganggu keponakanku”, kira-kira seperti itulah bentuk perlindungannya. Ia bagaikan sosok seorang ayah yang melindungi. Tidak heran, Nabi Muhammad sangat menginginkan hidayah untuknya.
Saat Abu Thalib menderita sakit yang mengantarkannya pada kematian, Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam terus berjuang agar sang paman mendapatkan kebahagiaan setelah kematian. Dengan cara menawarkannnya Islam. Namun, sampai akhir hayat, sang paman tak juga mau bersyahadat. Ia wafat memegang ajaran nenek moyang. Kehilangan sosok paman seperti Abu Thalib adalah duka dan kesedihan. Tapi, lebih sedih lagi, dia yang senantiasa melindungi, wafat dalam kekufuran.
Kasih Sayang Nabi
Terhadap orang-orang Quraisy yang tidak memiliki kekerabatan saja, Nabi memiliki rasa kasih dan belas kasihan. Padahal mereka menolak dakwah Islam. Mereka senantiasa merenyakiti Nabi secara fisik dan psikis. Seorang saja yang menerima dakwahnya, bagi beliau lebih berharga dari dunia dan seisinya.
عن أبي موسى، عن النبيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: «إِنَّمَا مَثَلِي وَمَثَلُ مَا بَعَثَنِي اللهُ بِهِ، كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ أَتَى قَوْمًا فَقَالَ: يَا قَوْمِ، إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ الجَيْشَ بِعَيْنَيَّ، وَإِنِّي أَنَا النَّذِيرُ العُرْيَانُ[2]، فَالنَّجَاءَ، فَأَطَاعَهُ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ، فَأَدْلَجُوا، فَانْطَلَقُوا عَلَى مَهَلِهِمْ فَنَجَوْا، وَكَذَّبَتْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْهُمْ، فَأَصْبَحُوا مَكَانَهُمْ، فَصَبَّحَهُمُ الجَيْشُ فَأَهْلَكَهُمْ وَاجْتَاحَهُمْ، فَذَلِكَ مَثَلُ مَنْ أَطَاعَنِي فَاتَّبَعَ مَا جِئْتُ بِهِ، وَمَثَلُ مَنْ عَصَانِي وَكَذَّبَ بِمَا جِئْتُ بِهِ مِنَ الحَقِّ»
Dari Abu musa, Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam bersabda, “Perumpamaanku dan perumpamaan apa-apa yang Allah utus aku dengannya seperti seorang yang mendatangi suatu kaum, lalu ia berkata, ‘Wahai kaumku, sesungguhnya aku melihat pasukan musuh dengan mata kepalaku dan sesungguhnya aku pengancam yang nyata, maka marilah menuju kepada keselamatan. Sebagian dari kaum itu mentaatinya, lalu mereka masuk pergi bersamanya, maka selamatlah mereka. Sebagian dari mereka mendustakan. Pagi-pagi mereka diserang oleh pasukan musuh lalu mereka dihancurkan dan diluluhlantakan. Demikianlah perumpamaan orang-orang yang taat kepadaku dan mengikuti apa yang aku bawa dan perumpamaan orang-orang yang durhaka kepadaku dan mendustakan kebenaran yang aku bawa.” (HR. Muslim, Kitab al-Fadhail, 2283).
Demikian perhatian beliau shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam kepada orang-orang yang mendustakan dan menentangnya. Tentu dengan orang yang sangat dekat, lebih-lebih sayang dan perhatian lagi. Apalagi orang terdekat itu begitu berjasa dalam hidupnya. Orang dekat itu memiliki hubungan darah. Bukan lagi seperti seorang keponakan dengan paman. Tapi, lebih mirip antara seorang anak dengan ayah. Abu Thalib-lah yang menanggung hidup Nabi setelah kakeknya, Abdul Muthalib, wafat. Mulai dari usia 8 tahun hingga lebih dari 40 tahun.
Wafatnya Sang Paman
Sayangnya, dengan kedekatan yang sekian lama terbangun, kalimat-kalimat tulus Rasulullah tak mampu menjangkau dalamnya lubuk hati Abu Thalib. Ia tetap ragu dan menolak. Demikianlah hidayah. Walaupun seseorang akrab dengan seruan penuh hikmah. Bahkan seruan itu disampaikan berulang-ulang. Dan datang dari lisan yang tak pernah berdusta. Jika Allah Ta’ala tak berkehendak, tak ada seorang pun yang mampu memberi petunjuk. Abu Thalib lebih memilih ajakan taklid yang diserukan setan. Sehingga menyumbat pandangannya dari kebenaran hakiki.
Kemudian kematian pun datang. Rasulullah bersegera menuju rumah sang paman tercinta. Ia bawa serta semua harapan. Agar sang paman menerima dakwahnya di akhir usianya. Sehingga ia pun selamat dari neraka.
Namun, Rasulullah shallallahu bukanlah satu-satunya orang yang hadir. Setan Mekah, Abu Jahal pun turut mendengar berita sekaratnya Abu Thalib. Bertemulah tokoh kebenaran dengan gembong kesesatan dalam satu pertemuan.
Dari Said bin al-Musayyib dari ayahnya, ia berkata, “Menjelang wafatnya Abu Thalib, Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam datang menemuinya. Saat itu beliau melihat telah hadir Abu Jahal dan Abdullah bin Abi Umayyah bin al-Mughirah. Beliau bersabda,
أَيْ عَمِّ، قُلْ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، كَلِمَةً أُحَاجُّ لَكَ بِهَا عِنْدَ اللهِ
‘Wahai paman, ucapkanlah laa ilaaha illallaah. Dengan kalimat ini, akan aku bela engkau nanti di sisi Allah.’
Abu Jahal dan Abdullah bin Abi Umayyah menanggapi,
أَتَرْغَبُ عَنْ مِلَّةِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ؟
‘Apakah engkau membenci agamanya Abdul Muthalib?’
Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam terus menawarkan kepada pamannya. Namun kedua orang itu juga terus menimpalinya. Akhirnya Abu Thalib mengatakan kepada mereka, ‘Di atas agamanya Abdul Muthalib’. Ia enggan mengucapkan laa ilaha illallaah.
Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam mengatakan,
وَاللَّهِ لأَسْتَغْفِرَنَّ لَكَ مَا لَمْ أُنْهَ عَنْكَ
‘Demi Allah, akan kumohonkan ampun untukmu selama aku tidak dilarang.’
Kemudian Allah menurunkan firman-Nya,
مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرُوا لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ
‘Tidak patutu bagi seorang nabi dan orang-orang yang beriman untuk memohonkan ampunan kepada orang-orang musyrik.’ (QS. At-Taubah: 113).
Allah mengisahkan ayat ini tentang Abu Thalib. Dan untuk Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, allah Ta’ala berfirman,
إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ يَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ
‘Sesungguhnya engkau (Muhammad) tidak mampu menunjuki orang yang engkau cintai, akan tetapi Allah-lah yang menunjuki siapa yang Dia kehendaki.’ (QS. Al-Qashash: 56). (Diriwayatkan oleh al-Bukhari dalam Kitab Tafsir al-Quran, Suratu al-Qashash, 4494 dalam Fath al-Bari).
Dari Abu Hurairah radhiallahu ‘anhu, Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam berkata pada pamannya:
قُلْ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، أَشْهَدُ لَكَ بِهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
“Ucapkanlah laa ilaaha illallaah, nanti akan kupersaksikan untukmu di hari kiamat.”
Abu Thalib menjawab,
لَوْلَا أَنْ تُعَيِّرَنِي قُرَيْشٌ. يَقُولُونَ: إِنَّمَا حَمَلَهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ الْجَزَعُ. لأَقْرَرْتُ بِهَا عَيْنَكَ
“Kalau tidak khawatir dicela oleh orang-orang Quraisy. Mereka akan berkata, ‘Abu Thalib mengucapkan itu karena ia panik (menjelang wafat)’. Akan kuucapkan kalimat itu sehingga membuatmu senang.”
Kemudian Allah menurunkan firman-Nya,
إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ يَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ
‘Sesungguhnya engkau (Muhammad) tidak mampu menunjuki orang yang engkau cintai, akan tetapi Allah-lah yang menunjuki siapa yang Dia kehendaki.’ (QS. Al-Qashash: 56). (Riwayat Muslim dalam Kitab al-Iman, Bab Awwalul Iman Qawlu: laa ilaaha illalllaah, 25).
Kesedihan Yang Mendalam
Menurut penulis -Allah yang lebih tahu hakikatnya- peristiwa ini adalah peristiwa paling menyedihkan yang dialami Rasulullah dalam hidupnya. Memang benar, Rasulullah banyak mengalami musibah kehilangan orang-orang yang beliau cintai. Beliau menyaksikan dua orang istrinya wafat sebelum dirinya, Khadijah dan Zainab bin Khuzaimah radhiallahu ‘anhuma. Satu per satu anak-anak beliau wafat mendahului dirinya, kecuali Fatimah. Beliau juga kehilangan sahabat-sahabat dekat semisal Hamzah bin Abdul Muthalib, Abu Salamah bin Abdul Asad, Utsman bin Mazh’un, Saad bin Mu’adz, Zaid bin Haritsah, Ja’far bin Abu Thalib, dll. Radhiallahu ‘anhum. Tapi, musibah kematian Abu Thalib berbeda. Kematian Abu Thalib ini lebih terasa berat. Mengapa? Karena sang paman yang sangat beliau cintai wafat dalam kekufuran. Sedangkan keluarga dan sahabat-sahabatnya tadi wafat dalam keimanan. Beliau -dengan izin Allah- tetap akan berjumpa dengan mereka di telaganya dan di surga kelak. Adapun Abu Thalib, perpisahan dengannya adalah perpisahan untuk selama-lamanya.
Peristiwa wafatnya Abu Thalib ini memberikan pesan yang dalam pada kita bahwa segala perkara itu di tangan Allah. Dia mengetahui yang tidak kita ketahui. Dia mengetahui mata-mata yang khianat dan apa yang tersembunyi di sanubari. Dia tahu, mana orang yang layak mendapat hidayah.
Seseorang itu tak hanya dipandang zahirnya, tapi batinnya jauh lebih penting. Dari Abu Hurairah, Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam bersabda,
إِنَّ اللهَ لَا يَنْظُرُ إِلَى أَجْسَادِكُمْ، وَلَا إِلَى صُوَرِكُمْ، وَلَكِنْ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى قُلُوبِكُمْ». وَأَشَارَ بِأَصَابِعِهِ إِلَى صَدْرِهِ
“Sesungguhnya Allah tidak melihat kepada fisik kalian, tidak juga pada tampilan kalian. Akan tetapi ia melihat kepada hati kalian.” Nabi menunjukkan tangannya ke dada.
Orang-orang kafir Quraisy tidak menaruh iba untuk menghormati wafatnya pembesar bani Hasyim ini. Bahkan mereka bergembira dan menampakkan suka cita. Mereka berkumpul mengunakan kesempatan untuk semakin menyakiti Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. Dalam benak mereka, sekarang Muhammad tanpa perlindungan.
Ummul Mukminin Aisyah radhiallahu ‘anha mengatakan,
مَا زَالَتْ قُرَيْشٌ كَاعَّةً حَتَّى تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو طَالِبٍ
“Orang-orang Quraisy senantiasa takut dan lemah hingga wafatnya Abu Thalib.” (HR. Hakim dalam Mustadrak 4243).
Mereka berusaha menumpuk-numpuk derita Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam.
Wafatnya Abu Thalib adalah ujian berat yang dihadapi Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam di tahun ke-10 kenabian beliau. Di tahun ini, Nabi mengalami banyak musibah berat. Di awal tahun, orang-orang Quraisy memboikot bani Hasyim. Pemboikotan dimulai dari tahun ke-7 kenabian hingga ke-10. Hingga bani Hasyim tidak memiliki sesuatu untuk dimakan. Baru saja bebas dari pemboikotan, paman beliau wafat. Yang berat adalah, sang paman wafat dalam kekufuran. Tiga hari kemudian, istri beliau, Khadijah, wafat. Ujian terus berdatangan. Beliau semakin ditekan. Dan berturut-turut ujian lainnya. Termasuk ditolak berdakwah di Thaif. Karena itu, wajar tahun ini disebut tahun kesedihan.
