Seorang sahabat saya tinggal di Jepang 20 tahun lebih, mulai dari kuliah, bekerja, sampai berkeluarga dan membesarkan anak-anak mereka di sana.

Satu hal yang membuat mereka resah awal-awal tinggal di sana adalah kesulitan mendapatkan makanan halal terutama daging. Bermodal nekat mereka merintis usaha penyembelihan daging secara Islam.

Sahabat saya, sebut saja namanya Safitri, dan suaminya, panggil saja Eko, mengajak seorang butcher resmi dan bersertifikat untuk bekerja sama.

Setelah melalui diskusi yang alot (karena di sana standar dan peraturannya sangat ketat), akhirnya mereka diijinkan untuk menggunakan fasilitas penyembelihan daging untuk konsumsi sendiri. Safitri dan Eko kemudian menyembelih ayam dengan tangan mereka sendiri.

Berawal dari memenuhi kebutuhan sendiri, kemudian menyanggupi permintaan teman dan komunitas muslim setempat. Sang suami naik sepeda mengantarkan sendiri daging sembelihan ke rumah-rumah pemesan.

Fast forward, 20 tahun kemudian usaha mereka Azhar Food telah berkembang sangat pesat jadi pensuplai daging dan makanan halal terbesar di seluruh Jepang dan juga diekspor ke berbagai negara lain. Mereka juga memasok Muslim Food untuk maskapai penerbangan Jepang. Sekarang bisnis mereka mencakup Edutour dan Halal Tour di seputar Jepang. Dan orang Jepang ternyata tidak anti agama, mereka justru menyambut perkembangan ini dengan baik.

Sang suami saat itu sebenarnya karirnya moncer di perusahaan elektronik terbesar di sana. Namun mereka memutuskan pulang ke Indonesia beberapa tahun lalu karena ingin berkontribusi untuk bangsa. Eko kemudian merintis perusahaan semi konduktor dengan merekrut para lulusan dalam negeri sampai akhirnya ia mendapat apresiasi bergengsi di antaranya Habibie Award 2010 dan ASEAN Engineering Award 2016. Ia saat ini terlibat dalam program Indonesia Terang dan Pintar Sampai Pelosok Negeri (penyediaan listrik untuk daerah terpencil dengan memanfaatkan sumber energi yang terbaharui).

Sementara sang istri lah yang bertugas menangani bisnis mereka dan bolak balik terbang Jepang-Jakarta seperti saya bolak balik naik ojek Depok-Pondok Cina.

Kelima anak mereka, mereka haruskan masuk sekolah negeri, bukan karena mereka tidak mampu mendaftar di sekolah internasional yang mahal tapi karena mereka ingin anak mereka tangguh. Dan memang anak-anak mereka sangat santun.

Apakah mereka dengan kesuksesan mereka lalu jadi sombong dan merasa tidak butuh tuhan?

Orang Jepang tidak butuh Tuhan? Sejak kecil saya sering baca cerita rakyat Jepang yang menggambarkan bahwa mereka rajin berdoa dan meminta pada dewa-dewa mereka.

Safitri pernah bercerita bagaimana ia sering mengunjungi dan membimbing seorang nenek Jepang kenalannya yang baru masuk Islam.

Begitu juga ada teman saya lainnya yang mendapat tugas membimbing kelompok-kelompok para muallaf di kotanya.

Kunjungan Zakir Naik kesana baru-baru ini menyadarkan kita bahwa sebenarnya cukup banyak orang Jepang yang ingin kembali kepada fitrah mereka. Bahwa mereka pun haus akan agama dan keyakinan yang bisa memberikan mereka ketenangan dan kepastian.

Semoga Allah memberi kita dan mereka hidayah dan petunjuk yang abadi.
