Ia merasa terganggu dengan kehadiran mertuanya, apalagi hidupnya yang serba pas-pasan.

Hingga akhirnya ia baru menyadari dan telah berbuat kesalahan yang sangat fatal kepada mertuanya.

Berikut ini kisah yang diceritakan sendiri perempuan tersebut:
Saya dan suami adalah teman SMA, kami sama-sama tidak melanjutkan ke jenjang yang lebih tinggi setelah tamat SMA, dan kami memilih untuk tinggal bersama di sebuah kamar kecil.

Setelah 3 tahun pernikahannya, saya pun hamil.

Entah mengapa dulu saya tidak berpikir panjang dan ingin cepat menikah, padahal mertua saya hanyalah seorang petani, keluarga mereka hidupnya hanya pas-pasan saja, sampai membeli rumah saya mereka tidak mampu.

Saya sebenarnya tidak begitu memandang kedua mertua saya, mereka hanyalah petani miskin.

Kedua orangtua saya sendiri bekerja sebagai tukang, uang mereka sendiri pun tidaklah banyak, tapi saat menikah, mereka masih bisa memberikan saya sedikit uang tunjangan.

Walau semua itu tidaklah cukup untuk membiayai hidup saya dan suami.

Pekerjaan suami saya juga sebagai seorang petani, hidup kami memang benar-benar pas-pasan, kami hanya mampu menyewa sebuah kamar keci.

Usia kandungan saya semakin lama semakin mendekati melahirkan hingga saya tidak bisa bekerja lagi.

Meski saya sudah jadi pengangguran dan hanya di rumah saja, namun saya tidak pernah mengunjungi mertua.

Kedua mertua seumur hidup tidak pernah pergi jauh dari rumah, namun suatu hari ibu mertua saya tiba-tiba menelepon.

Ia berkata ingin merawat saya, lalu saya bilang tidak usah karena rumah yang sangat kecil hingga tidak ada ruangan lebih untuk menampung ibu mertua.

Ibu mertua langsung menutup teleponnya seperti tidak suka dengan jawaban saya.

Saya pikir masalah ini sudah selesai, tapi ternyata ibu mertua saya sunguh-sungguh datang dan ingin berkunjung kerumah.

Ia pun sudah sampai di stasiun dan meminta untuk dijemput di stasiun.

“Perut saya udah besar begini, masih suruh saya pergi jemput?”, pikir saya kesal..

Tidak lama kemudian, ibu mertua pun menelepon, saya bilang saya tidak bisa jemput dan menyuruhnya naik bus.

Eh, tapi ia malah menjawab, ia tidak mengerti bagaimana cara naik bus.



Akhirnya saya pun dengan terpaksa pergi menjemputnya.

Ia benar-benar seperti orang kebingungan saat berada di stasiun.

Saya berjalan hampir 40 menit lamanya mencari kebedaan ibu mertua di stasiun hingga saya benar-benar merasa kelelahan.

Saya sangat marah sekali dan berpikir kalau mertua saya ini memang sengaja ingin menyusahkan saya agar saya keguguran.

Setelah ketemu, saya membawa mertua ke rumah, dan sepanjang perjalanan menuju ke rumah, saya sama sekali tidak mengajaknya bicara.

Ibu mertua masih berusaha untuk mengajak ngobrol, tapi hanya saya jawab seadanya saja.

Saat sampai di rumah, ibu mertua membawa karung yang sudah lusuh dan dekil ke rumah, saya pun bertanya “mengapa ibu bawa karung jelek seperti ini?”

“Oh, ini saya bawakan obat tradisional, diminum yah, biar bayinya gendut nanti.”

Saya langsung menatap dengan tatapan sinis dan berpikir, ”Apa? Udah repotin orang, sekarang malah disuruh makan obat buat bikin bayi gendut? Mau bikin saya mati waktu melahirkan ya?!”

Saya sama sekali tidak mengatakan terima kasih dan langsung berkata,

“Bu, rumah saya kecil banget nih, gak nyaman sekali, saya juga bisa jaga diri kok. Ibu mendingan pulang saja.”

“Tapi sudah malam begini, memang masih ada bus?”

“Iya tak masalah, saya panggilkan ibu taksi, ibu pulang saja. Obatnya juga saya simpan kok.”

Saya pun memaksa ibu mertua untuk pulang dengan cara yang sedikit kasar seperti ini.

Setelah mertua pulang, saya kembali ke kamar dan sebenarnya sudah ingin membuang karung jelek pemberian ibu mertua tersebut.

Tapi sebelumnya saya memutuskan untuk membukanya dan ingin tahu apa isinya.

Saat dibuka, saya kaget dan tidak menyangka, ternyata didalamnya berisi obat-obatan, beberapa kilo ubi dan sebuah amplop merah.

Karena penasaran, saya buka amplop tersebut, ternyata isinya adalah sebuah kartu bank dan sepucuk surat.

Di dalam surat tersebut sangat jelas terlihat bentuk tulisan yang bengkok-bengkok yang tampaknya itu adalah tulisan dari ayah mertua.

Yang lebih mengagetkan saya ternyata isi kartu bank tersebut uangnya mencapai 20 juta rupiah.
