Pada Maret tahun 1918, sekelompok geologis mencoba mendeteksi secara serius sebuah gempa bumi kecil yang berasal dari bawah gunung St. Helen di Washington, Amerika. Mereka menemukan bahwa sinyal yang mereka dapatkan dari dalam tanah adalah sebuah pertanda bahwa volkano yang terdapat dalam gunung berapi ini sedang terbangun dari tidur lelapnya (aktif), dan pada akhirnya pada 18 Mei 1918 hal tersebut benar-benar terjadi, gunung St. Helen meletus dengan kekuatan sebesar 500 kali dari kekuatan bom atom yang dijatuhkan di Hirosima, awan yang berasal dari debu panas menjulang sejauh 15 mil ke atas atmosfir, 230 kubik mil hutan lenyap, dan 6 juta pepohonan hangus, jumlah tersebut cukup untuk membuat 300.000 rumah. Hal ini menjelaskan bahwa manusia hidup ribuan tahun dengan ancaman dari gempa bumi dan gunung berapi namun penyebab dari kekuatan tersebut pada saat itu masih belum dapat dipahami dan merupakan sebuah misteri. Sampai pada akhirnya manusia menemukan penemuan terbesar pertama yaitu Inti Luar Bumi yang memberi gambaran mengenai apa yang terjadi di dalam bumi.
1. Inti Luar Bumi
Dalam beberapa abad, hal yg kita ketahui mengenai interior (bagian dalam) hanya bumi berasal dari bidang pertambangan,sampai akhirnya ilmuwan memakai sebuah alat yang diberi nama seismograf untuk mempelajari gempa bumi dan mendapatkan pemahaman yg lebih akurat mengenai hal yg terjadi di dalam bumi. Saat gempa terjadi, seismograf mengukur kecepatan dan intensitas dari gelombanmg seismik yang bergetar di bawah tanah, dengan menggunakan metode ini ilmuwan mengidentifikasi lapisan-lapisan yang berbeda pada perut bumi, setiap lapisan tersebut digolongkan menurut perubahan dan intensitas batuannya, sebagai contoh lapisan yang pertama adalah Kulit (The Crust) sebuah kulit dari batu menyelimuti planet dengan kedalaman dari 3mil hingga 13mil ke bawah, kemudian di bawahnya adalah Mantel (The mantle) dengan kedalaman 1.800mil
Pada 1906, seorang geologis berkebangsaan Inggris bernama Richard Oldham, menganalisa data seismograf yg disebabkan dari gempa bumi besar, saat itu dia mendapatkan sesuatu yg ganjil. Dia mendapati bahwa getaran yang merambat ke dalam bumi menghantarkan sebuah gelombang yang tidak langsung mengenai pusat bumi seperti yg diharapkan, melainkan menabrak sebuah hambatan, akhirnya dia menyadari bahwa hambatan tersebut merupakan bagian terdalam dari perut bumi. Adalah sebuah massa yg cukup kuat untuk menangkis gelombak seismik tersebut, sehingga dia menamakan itu sebagai inti bumi, ini adalah penemuan terbesar pertama dimana manusia menemukan dasar pemahaman dari apa yang ada di dalam bumi kita, yaitu adalah sebuah inti bumi yang kemudian penemuan ini disebut sebagai inti luar.

Penemuan inti bumi dari ilmuwan Inggris tersebut memberikan petunjuk yg membantu pekerjan ilmuwan lain yg pada akhirnya merevolusi pemahaman mengenai hal yg terjadi di dalam perut bumi. Sebelumnya para ilmuwan percaya bahwa gambaran dan pemahaman mengenai inti bumi sudahlah komplit, sampai pada awal 1930 seorang ilmuwan wanita bernama Inge Lehmann tidak begitu yakin dengan hal tersebut.
Lehmann adalah seorang seismologer genius yg bekerja di Denmark dan greenland. Pada tahun 1936 dia menganalisa gelombang seismik dari gempa bumi yg terjadi beberapa tahun sebelumnya yang didapat dari catatan-catatan gempa yang direkam oleh stasiun seismograf di seluruh dunia, dengan membandingkan seluruh catatan seismik tersebut dia mengkalkulasi gelombang seismik yang merambat ke dalam bumi, dia mendapati bahwa gelombang tersebut mengalami perubahan pada kecepatannya, gelombang tersebut seperti menemui / menabark sebuah batasan atau tembok penghalang, ini membuatnya berpikir bahwa ada sesuatu yang aneh di dalam perut bumi, kemudian dia berkesimpulan bahwa bumi tidak hanya memiliki 1 inti tapi 2 inti. Inilah awal mengapa penemuan Richard disebut sebagai inti luar dimana Lehmann menemukan sebuah lapisan baru yang disebut sebagai inti dalam bumi.
Sekarang dengan penghitungan seismik yg canggih kita tahu bahwa inti dalam bumi terbuat dari besi yg solid, solid karena gravitasi pada pusat bumi menciptakan tekanan sebesar 3 juta kali gravitasi pada permukaaan bumi. Sedangkan inti luar terbuat dari besi likuid dan elemen-elemen lain, massa panas yang berputar di dalam perut bumi menghasilkan putaran elektrik dimana tenaga elektrik yang berputar tersebut menciptakan medan magnet. Medan magnet inilah yg melindungi bumi dari radiasi kosmik yang berbahaya, kedua inti tersebut membentuk sebuah struktur besar berdiameter 4.000 mil dan berarti lebih besar dari planet Mars.
Suhu pada inti bumi temperaturnya bisa setinggi 13.000 derajat fahrenheit, dimana suhu itu lebih panas dari suhu permukaan matahari. Panas yang ada di dalam bumi itu awalnya berasal dari tabrakan benda-benda langit, hasil dar itabrakan tersebut menghasilkan panas yg luar biasa. Energi panas tersebut bertahan hingga sekarang pada bumi, sedangkan pada planet lain seperti Mars dan bulan, panas tersebut sudah hilang, salah satunya dikarenakan ukuran mereka ynag relatif lebih kecil dari ukuran bumi. Panas bumi diperkirakan masih bertahan hingga milyaran tahun kedepan hingga akhirnya bumi mendingin seperti halnya bulan.
Intinya: “Pada tahun 1936 Inge Lehman meng-komplitkan penemuan tentang Inti bumi, bahwa suhu pada Inti Bumi temperaturnya bisa setinggi 13.000 derajat fahrenheit, dimana suhu itu lebih panas daripada suhu permukaan matahari. Namun, 1300 tahun sebelum dia (Inge Lehman) mengemukakan itu, Al-Quran telah mengatakannya pada surrah At-Tur {52} ayat ke 6 : “dan laut yang didalam tanahnya ada api..”
Al-Quran is not “The book of SAINS” (Buku tentang Ilmu Pengetahuan), tapi Al-Quran adalah “The book of SIGNS” (Buku tentang tanda-tanda).
