Perkembangan pesat Exxon sebagai macan dalam industri perminyakan, diungkapkan dalam UPI (United Press International) berikut ini yang dikeluarkan lima belas bulan setelah artikel majalah Time tersebut:
Majalah Fortune baru saja mengeluarkan daftar 500 perusahaan terbesar di Amerika, dan selama 20 tahun majalah tersebut mengikuti kinerja semua perusahaan, peringkat tersebut tidak pernah berubah sedrastis ini. Edisi bulan Mei dari majalah tersebut melaporkan bahwa alasannya adalah minyak.
Daftar baru perusahaan industri terbesar majalah Fortune pada 1974 memperkenalkan peringkat 1 yang baru yaitu Exxon Corporation. Perusahaan tersebut menggantikan General Motors Corporation, yang menjadi perusahaan industri terbesar di Amerika selama 40 tahun. Exxon berada di peringkat ke 2 pada 1973.
Didorong oleh harga minyak yang melambung tinggi, penjualan Exxon yang menjadi ukuran majalah Fortune dalam menentukan ukuran sebuah perusahaan melonjak dari 25,7 miliar dolar pada 1973 menjadi 35,8 miliar dolar dari tahun yang lalu.
Untuk memahami betapa besarnya Exxon, bayangkan berikut ini. Jika Exxon menutup semua kantor cabangnya di luar negeri, maka perusahaan tersebut masih menjadi industri terbesar kesembilan atau kesepuluh di Amerika Serikat. Namun, perusahaan tersebut hanya mendapatkan 16% dari produksi minyaknya dan 32% penjualannya dari Amerika. Jika Exxon hanya mengirimkan minyak, maka perusahaan tersebut akan menjadi perusahaan pengiriman terbesar di dunia. Perusahaan tersebut memiliki 155 kapal tangki sendiri dan banyak sekali kapal yang dapat disewa. Exxon adalah bank internasional besar yang menyimpan kekayaan dalam mata uang Mark, Yen, Franc, Pound, dan Dolar di seluruh dunia dan sebagainya.
Untuk mengetahui kendali keluarga Rockefeller yang sebenarnya terhadap Exxon dan cabang lainnya dari Standard Oil Trust yang asli (Mobil, Standard of Indiana, Standard of California, Chevron, Sohio, Phillips 66, Marathon, dan sebagainya) kita harus mengumpulkan semua potongan teka-teki yang bisa kita temukan dan memasangnya dengan hati-hati.
Dalam kesaksiannya di depan Kongres, Dilworth (pengacara keluarga Rockefeller) mengungkapkan bahwa keluarga Rockefeller memiliki persediaan minyak yang nilainya sekitar 324.600.000 dolar. Angka ini mewakili rata-rata sekitar 2% saham di empat perusahaan minyak raksasa. Namun, pada 1966, kesaksian di depan Komite Patman menunjukkan bahwa sembilan yayasan keluarga Rockefeller juga mengendalikan rata-rata sekitar 3% saham di semua perusahaan cabang Standard Oil Trust. Saham keseluruhan sebesar 5% ini memberi keluarga Rockefeller kendali yang besar terhadap keempat perusahaan raksasa tersebut.
Kartel Perbankan Rockefeller
Namun, mengagumkannya, minyak bukanlah bisnis terbesar keluarga Rockefeller. Kehormatan tersebut diberikan kepada perbankan internasional. Beberapa bank milik keluarga Rockefeller adalah First National City Bank dan Chase Manhattan Bank. Chase Manhattan adalah lembaga perbankan terbesar ketiga di dunia, dan meskipun hanya berada di peringkat ketiga, tetapi sejauh ini merupakan lembaga perbankan yang paling berpengaruh.
Chase manhattan didirikan oleh gabungan Chase Bank milik Rockefeller dengan Manhattan Bank yang dikendalikan oleh Kuhn, Loeb. Kerja sama tersebut menjadi keberhasilan sangat besar bagi kedua keluarga karena pada 1971 Chase Manhattan dikatakan memiliki aset senilai 36 miliar dolar. Ini cukup mengesankan, tetapi New York Times telah menuliskan bahwa itu bukan cerita keseluruhannya, Time menekankan besarnya kekuatan Chase Manhattan dengan menuliskan :
"Chase memiliki 28 kantor cabang sendiri di luar negeri, tetapi yang lebih penting lagi, bank tersebut memiliki 50.000 kantor cabang koresponden di seluruh dunia."
Lima puluh ribu bank koresponden di seluruh dunia! Jika setiap bank koresponden nilainya hanya 10 juta dolar, maka Chase akan mendapatkan kekayaan sebesar lima ratus miliar dolar dari seluruh dunia!
Kekayaan sebesar itu membuat keluarga Rockefeller dapat menciptakan krisis moneter internasional dalam waktu semalam. Setiap kali terjadi badai moneter internasional, beberapa ratus juta dolar masuk ke kantong bank-bank Eropa. Saat badai tersebut berhenti, mereka yang mengetahuinya sejak awal mendapatkan banyak sekali uang. Sehingga, kenyataan bahwa keluarga Rockefeller mendapatkan laba yang sangat besar melalui Chase Manhattan Bank dan kantornya di luar negeri, menjadi jauh lebih masuk akal.
Bank ini bahkan mempekerjakan para wakil penuh waktu di Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa. Selama 1973 direktur utama Chase yaitu David Rockefeller bertemu dengan 27 kepala negara, termasuk para pemimpin Rusia dan Cina Komunis, serta sejumlah pejabat tinggi lainnya. Bahkan Henry Kissinger, yang sering terlibat dalam makan malam kenegaraan, tidak dapat menandingi pengaruh Rockefeller terhadap para pejabat tinggi tersebut.
Laporan Tahunan Chase untuk tahun 1974 melaporkan bahwa aset keseluruhan dari Chase Manhattan Corporation sebesar 42.532.003.302 dolar. Angka itu lebih dari empat puluh dua miliar dolar. Chase melaporkan bahwa dari aset ini mereka memiliki pendapatan bersih sebesar 180.801.382 dolar pada tahun 1974. Laba tersebut lebih dari 180 juta dolar hanya dalam satu tahun atau 3,5 juta dolar per minggu dan dari laba tersebut keluarga Rockefeller mengantongi lebih dari empat persen atau sekitar 7,2 juta dolar. Itu angka yang lumayan, jika mengingat Chase hanyalah alat untuk menyimpan dan mengembangkan sebagian besar lembaga keuangan keluarga tersebut.
Namun, Chase Manhattan bukan satu-satunya bank besar dalam kerajaan keuangan keluarga Rockefeller. Bank pertama di mana keluarga Rockefeller terlibat langsung di dalamnya adalah National City Bank of New York, yang sebenarnya berada di peringkat kedua di dunia internasional. Mantan direktur bank tersebut yaitu James Stillman menjadi teman dekat saudara laki-laki John D. yaitu William, yang pada saat itu mengelola Standard Oil Trust yang sangat besar. William Rockefeller menyerahkan bisnis perbankan Standard Oil kepada Stillman sehingga National City menjadi bank terbesar di New York City. Kerja sama di bidang keuangan tersebut diperkuat dengan pernikahan dua putra William Rockefeller dengan dua putri Stillman.
Perusahaan Asuransi Rockefeller
Perusahaan asuransi jiwa memainkan peran penting dalam pembiayaan karena menjadi pemberi utama kredit jangka panjang, karena bank biasanya hanya memberikan kredit jangka pendek dan menengah. Sehingga kesanggupan membayar utang (atau kebangkrutan) dari perusahaan lain seringkali tergantung pada kemampuan mereka untuk mendapatkan pinjaman dari perusahaan keuangan raksasa yang dikendalikan oleh keluarga Rockefeller.
Bank-bank milik Kelompok Rockefeller berhubungan erat dengan dewan direksi tiga dari empat perusahaan asuransi jiwa terbesar yaitu Metropolitan Life, Equitable Life, dan New York Life. Aset keseluruhan dari ketiga raksasa asuransi ini lebih dari 113 miliar dolar pada 1969. Menurut Profesor Knowles, bank-bank yang dikendalikan oleh Kelompok Rockefeller memiliki sekitar 25% dari semua aset yang dimiliki oleh lima puluh bank umum terbesar di Amerika dan sekitar 30% dari semua aset yang dimiliki oleh lima puluh perusahaan asuransi jiwa terbesar.

Kesimpulan
Seandainya Anda tidak dapat menghitung jumlah keseluruhan perusahaan yang terperangkap di dalam berbagai jaring keluarga Rockefeller, mari kita meringkas hasilnya, yaitu 37 dari 100 perusahaan industri terbesar di Amerika, 9 dari 20 perusahaan transportasi terbesar, perusahaan keperluan umum nomor satu di Amerika, 3 dari 4 perusahaan asuransi terbesar, ditambah dengan sejumlah perusahaan kecil yang berkecimpung dalam bidang produksi, distribusi, penjualan eceran, pinjaman, atau investasi, semuanya dikendalikan oleh keluarga Rockefeller.
Mengejutkan, bukan? Gabungkanlah semuanya maka ejaannya bukanlah I-B-U. Tapi menjadi K-E-K-U-A-S-A-A-N.
"Kekuasaan dari kekayaan keluarga tersebut tak terkira," lapor Washington Post. Dan kali ini surat kabar tersebut mengatakan yang sebenarnya, "Serangkaian kepemilikan dan pengaruh yang lebih besar dari jumlah saham yang dimilikinya." Namun, Rocky (julukan Rockefeller) mengatakan kalau ini semua hanyalah mitos! Tentu saja, Rocky. Itu sama dengan mengatakan kalau Raquel Welch kurus dan Mark Spitz tidak bisa berenang.
Seperti yang kita lihat, keluarga Rockefeller menginginkan lebih banyak uang dan lebih banyak kekuasaan. Keluarga tersebut akan menggunakan kekayaan pribadinya, posisinya dalam masyarakat, dan apa pun untuk mewujudkannya. Rockefeller senior adalah pengusaha lihai yang memulai usahanya dengan bersekongkol melawan para pesaing lokal dan akhirnya bersekongkol dengan beberapa kartel untuk mengendalikan perekonomian dunia. Sementara para pewarisnya membuat cara yang digunakannya terlihat seperti tawar-menawar ramah di acara obral Sabtu siang.
