Beberapa bulan lalu saya melakukan percobaan sederhana ini, percobaan ini saya lakukan dengan tujuan mengetahui pengaruh soda terhadap zat penyusun tulang. Sebenarnya percobaan ini menggunakan tulang ayam dan larutan asam (HCl), tapi saya mencoba untuk mengganti larutan HCl dengan minuman bersoda. Jika menggunakan larutan HCl, persamaan reaksinya :
CaCO3 + HCl menjadi CaCl2 + H2O + CO2
Keterangan:
CaCO3 = Kalsium Karbonat (zat yang terkandung pada tulang ayam)
HCl = Asam Klorida
CaCl2 = Kalsium Klorida
H2O = Air
CO2 = Karbon Dioksida.
Cara Kerja:
Tulang ayam yang direndam ke dalam larutan HCl selama kurang lebih 15 menit dan diangkat menyebabkan struktur tulang yang awalnya sangat keras berubah menjadi lunak dengan disertai endapan-endapan bagian tulang ayam di dasar rendaman tersebut. Semakin lama direndam dan semakin ditambah konsentrasi HCl membuat struktur tulang semakin cepat berubah menjadi lunak.
Dari seluruh rangkaian percobaan diatas, saya mencoba berpikir dan mengganti larutan HCl dengan minuman bersoda. Dan hasilnya sama dengan apa yang terjadi larutan HCl yaitu struktur tulang yang keras berubah menjadi sangat lunak dengan disertai endapan-endapan bagian tulang ayam di dasar rendaman tersebut. Tetapi ada beberapa perbedaan antara menggunakan larutan HCl dan minuman bersoda yaitu jika menggunakan minuman bersoda waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk membuat tulang ayam menjadi lunak lebih lama sekitar 2-3 minggu (berdasarkan percobaan yang saya lakukan). Minuman bersoda ternyata juga mengandung asam, ada yang berderajat asam tinggi ataupun rendah.
Kesimpulan yang mungkin bisa kita dapat dari percobaan yang saya lakukan adalah jangan terlalu sering meminum minuman bersoda karena tidak baik bagi kesehatan, adapun bahaya minuman bersoda sebagai berikut:
1. Obesitas
Obesitas merupakan penyakit kelebihan berat badan minimal 75 persen dari berat ideal. Obesitas merupakan faktor utama penyebab meningkatnya risiko diabetes, terutama diabetes tipe 2 dan penyakit kardiovaskular.
Penyebab utama obesitas adalah konsumsi makanan yang berlebihan, tanpa diimbangi aktivitas fisik dan olahraga. Konsumsi makanan yang berlebihan menyumbangkan banyak sekali energi (yang tidak berguna) ke dalam tubuh. Penyebab obesitas lainnya adalah karena keturunan (genetik).
2. Kanker Esofagus (Kerongkongan)
Makanan dan minuman yang masuk ke dalam tubuh akan berpengaruh terhadap resiko serangan kanker. Sebuah studi yang dilakukan di Amerika Serikat oleh tim dari Tata Memorial Hospital, India, menunjukkan bahwa kenaikan konsumsi minuman ringan berkarbonat diikuti oleh naiknya kasus kanker esofagus.
Tim peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa kenaikan kasus kanker esophagus tersebut berhubungan dengan naiknya konsumsi minuman bersoda. Kesimpulan mereka juga didukung oleh dasar biologis yang kuat dari hasil studi lainnya.

Kafein yang terkandung dalam minuman ringan dapat memacu pembuangan kalsium melalui urin. Hal ini pulalah makin mendukung rendahnya asupan kalsium pada konsumen minuman ringan (Jacobson, 2003; Field, 2003).

Gula pasir yang telah dimurnikan memegang banyak peran dalam menyebabkan kerusakan gigi. Konsumen minuman ringan selalu mengekspos gigi mereka dengan gula yang berasal dari minuman ringan sepanjang hari.
Sebuah penelitian yang dilakukan pada tahun 1974, menemukan korelasi positif antara frekuensi konsumsi minuman ringan dengan tingkat keparahan kerusakan gigi, terutama pada anak-anak.Penemuan ini cukup mencengangkan karena para peneliti juga telah memperhitungkan konsumsi makanan manis lainnya, tetapi tetap menemukan bahwa minuman ringanlah yang paling banyak berkontribusi dalam menyebabkan kerusakan gigi (Jacobson, 2003).

Penyebab utama terjadinya penyakit jantung atau penyakit kardiovaskular lainnya adalah konsumsi makanan yang tinggi kolesterol dan lemak jenuh, merokok, dan gaya hidup santai dengan aktivitas fisik yang minimal. Penyebab lainnya yang berisiko sangat besar pada orang dewasa adalah konsumsi gula berlebih.
Gula hasil penguraian karbohidrat akan dengan segera meningkatkan kadar trigliserida darah. Tingginya kadar trigliserida darah kemudian diasosiasikan dengan tingginya risiko terserang penyakit jantung.
8. Batu Ginjal
Batu ginjal merupakan kondisi terdapatnya kristal kalsium dalam ginjal. Kristal tersebut dapat berupa kalsium oksalat, kalsium fosfat, maupun kalsium sitrat.
Mekanisme pemunculan batu ginjal sangat sejalan dengan mekanisme pemunculan osteoporosis. - Cucilah tulang ayam sampai bersih sehingga tidak ada lagi daging yang menempel.
- Siapkan larutan asam dan masukkan tulang ayam tersebut sampai semua bagiannya terendam. Rendamlah selama kurang lebih 15 menit.
- Setelah itu angkat menggunakan pinset.
- Tekanlah tulang ayam tersebut dengan menggunakan ujung pinset. Lakukan juga penekanan pada tulang ayam yang tidak direndam larutan asam.
- Bandingkan struktur tulang ayam yang dimasukkan ke dalam larutan HCl dengan tulang ayam yang tidak dimasukkan ke dalam larutan HCl.
Tulang ayam yang direndam ke dalam larutan HCl selama kurang lebih 15 menit dan diangkat menyebabkan struktur tulang yang awalnya sangat keras berubah menjadi lunak dengan disertai endapan-endapan bagian tulang ayam di dasar rendaman tersebut. Semakin lama direndam dan semakin ditambah konsentrasi HCl membuat struktur tulang semakin cepat berubah menjadi lunak.
Dari seluruh rangkaian percobaan diatas, saya mencoba berpikir dan mengganti larutan HCl dengan minuman bersoda. Dan hasilnya sama dengan apa yang terjadi larutan HCl yaitu struktur tulang yang keras berubah menjadi sangat lunak dengan disertai endapan-endapan bagian tulang ayam di dasar rendaman tersebut. Tetapi ada beberapa perbedaan antara menggunakan larutan HCl dan minuman bersoda yaitu jika menggunakan minuman bersoda waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk membuat tulang ayam menjadi lunak lebih lama sekitar 2-3 minggu (berdasarkan percobaan yang saya lakukan). Minuman bersoda ternyata juga mengandung asam, ada yang berderajat asam tinggi ataupun rendah.

Tim peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa kenaikan kasus kanker esophagus tersebut berhubungan dengan naiknya konsumsi minuman bersoda. Kesimpulan mereka juga didukung oleh dasar biologis yang kuat dari hasil studi lainnya.
