Mungkin pertanyaan itu pernah mengusik hati kita yang ingin sekali mengetahui tentang masa lalu yang sebenarnya ataupun masa depan yang masih misteri itu. Bahkan mungkin kita seringkali menonton acara televisi yang menyajikan berbagai cerita tentang orang yang bisa menjelajah waktu dengan mesin waktu baik ke masa lalu ataupun ke masa yang akan datang. Tetapi apakah semua itu benar-benar bisa kita lakukan ? bagaimana ilmu pengetahuan kita yang ada sekarang ini menjawabnya ?
Pertanyaan pertama, apakah mungkin kita kembali ke masa lalu dengan suatu teknologi dan ilmu pengetahuan di masa yang akan datang ?. Dalam menjawab pertanyaan ini, ilmuwan fisika terbagi menjadi 3 pendapat, yaitu :
1. Pendapat pertama mengatakan hal itu tidak mungkin dilakukan, karena kita tidak mungkin merubah sejarah yang telah terjadi sampai saat ini. Waktu akan terus berjalan ke depan dan tidak pernah mundur kembali.
2. Pendapat kedua mengatakan bahwa hal itu bisa saja dilakukan dengan cara melewati gelombang waktu, walaupun sampai sekarang pun kita masih belum mengerti bagaimana caranya bisa menembus gelombang waktu di masa lalu itu. Tetapi, menurut pendapat ini kita sama sekali tidak dapat merubah sejarah. Apabila kita benar-benar bisa pergi ke masa lalu, maka kita hanya bisa menyaksikan apa yang terjadi tetapi tidak dapat melakukan sesuatu pun untuk merubah keadaan tersebut.
3. Pendapat ketiga mengatakan bahwa hal itu bisa saja dilakukan dan kita pun dapat merubah sejarah itu. Tetapi mereka menambahkan bahwa sejarah yang berhasil kita rubah itu sama sekali tidak akan merubah sejarah yang telah terjadi pada dimensi kita sekarang ini, melainkan akan terjadi pada dimensi manusia yang lain. Jadi di dunia ini terdapat banyak sekali dimensi kehidupan manusia lainnya yang berbeda-beda. Pendapat ini mungkin menjadi inspirasi beberapa film fiksi ilmiah di televisi maupun film layar lebar.
Dari ketiga pendapat ini manakah yang lebih realistis ?. Mungkin yang paling mendekati kebenaran adalah pendapat pertama tentunya. Waktu yang telah Allah ciptakan ini tidaklah mungkin dapat berjalan mundur lagi, sebagaimana kiamat, ia tidak dapat ditunda-tunda lagi kedatangannya. Ditambah lagi, waktu bukanlah sesuatu yang konkrit, sehingga dalam mempelajari hakekatnya saja sudah tidak mungkin, apalagi melewati gelombangnya. Sampai saat ini tidak ada satu cabang ilmu pun yang dapat menjelaskan dengan baik dan konkrit bagaimana cara untuk bisa kembali ke masa lalu, apalagi menciptakan teknologi untuk menembus masa lalu itu.
Walaupun kita tidaklah dapat menembus masa lalu, tetapi sebenarnya fenomena alam yang seringkali kita saksikan sebenarnya kebanyakan adalah masa lalu. Sebagai contoh adalah cahaya matahari yang kita lihat di pagi hari misalnya, sebenarnya adalah cahaya matahari yang berasal dari masa 8 menit sebelumnya. Bagaimana hal itu bisa terjadi ? cahaya matahari memiliki kecepatan 300.000 km/detik untuk menjalar, sedangkan jarak matahari dan bumi adalah sekitar 149 juta kilometer jauhnya, sehingga cahaya itu membutuhkan waktu sekitar 8 menit untuk sampai ke bumi kita ini, barulah kita mendapatkan informasinya. Andaikan matahari itu sekarang ini meledak, maka kita akan mengetahui informasi itu 8 menit setelah ledakan tersebut terjadi. Masih banyak lagi fenomena seperti itu di alam ini, apalagi bintang-bintang yang nampak di langit, yang jaraknya saja bisa sampai puluhan ribu bahkan jutaan tahun cahaya jauhnya dari bumi kita ini. Berarti sebenarnya yang kita lihat sekarang ini adalah masa lalu bintang-bintang itu, yang bisa jadi puluhan ribu atau jutaan tahun yang lalu. Sedangkan sekarang ini apakah bintang-bintang itu sebenarnya masih ada atau telah meledak akan sulit sekali kita ketahui, karena jauhnya jarak mereka dari bumi. Bintang yang paling dekat dengan matahari kita saja, yaitu alpha centauri berjarak 4,3 tahun cahaya jauhnya. Berarti bintang di alpha centauri yang kita saksikan saat ini sebenarnya adalah keadaan bintang itu ketika 4,3 tahun yang lalu.
Begitulah kira-kira hakekat fenomena masa lalu yang dapat kita pahami dari sisi ilmu pengetahuan saat ini. Sehingga sampai saat ini kita tidak akan pernah lepas dari fenomena masa lalu itu, bahkan kita selalu akan menjalaninya.
Sekarang bagaimana dengan pertanyaan kedua, mungkinkah kita menuju ke masa depan ?. Bagaimana caranya agar kita dapat melintasi waktu untuk pergi ke masa depan ?
Dari beberapa kisah yang telah kami paparkan sebelumnya telah diceritakan tentang beberapa kisah nyata yang terjadi di masa lalu yang dikabarkan Al Qur’an dan hadits tentang orang-orang yang pergi ke masa depannya. Kisah Ashabul Kahfi yang melintasi waktu sampai 309 tahun ke masa depan, Uzair yang dibangkitkan kembali 100 tahun dari masa hidupnya begitu pula dengan Nabi Isa AS yang telah diangkat ke langit dan akan kembali ke bumi di masa depan, padahal sampai saat ini beliau telah diangkat sekitar 2000 tahun yang lalu.
Dari beberapa hadits Nabi pun pernah ada yang menunjukkan bahwa Rasulullah SAW pernah mengalaminya. Dalam suatu hadits disebutkan bahwa pada suatu hari Nabi berkata kepada Bilal RA, “ Aku masuk surga, maka terdengar olehku suara gesekan sandalmu di hadapanku di dalam surga itu.Maka dari itu, beritahukan aku, amal apakah yang paling kamu harapkan yang telah kamu lakukan dalam Islam ? Bilal berkata,”Tidak ada amalan yang telah aku lakukan dalam Islam, yang lebih aku harapkan manfaatnya, selain bersuci dengan sempurna, baik siang maupun malam, lalu aku shalat dengan wudlu itu sebanyak-banyaknya yang telah ditetapkan Allah untukku.”
Hadits di atas adalah pembicaran langsung antara Nabi dengan Bilal, berarti pada saat itu Bilal masih berada di dunia ini, tetapi ternyata Nabi telah mendengar suara sandalnya ketika beliau memasuki surga, bagaimana mungkin ?. Berarti pastilah Rasulullah saat itu diperdengarkan oleh Allah suatu dimensi masa depan ketika Bilal telah masuk ke dalam surga, sebagai mukjizat atas beliau.
Dalam Shahih Bukhari dan Muslim ada suatu riwayat dari Abu Hurairah RA, dia berkata Rasulullah SAW pernah bersabda, ”Aku melihat Amr bin Amir bin Luhay Al Khuza’i (Ibnu Qam’ah bin Khandaq saudara Bani Ka’ab) sedang menyeret punggungnya (berjalan terlentang) di dalam neraka.”
Dalam Shahih Bukhari dan Muslim pula ada suatu riwayat dari Imran bin Hushain RA, dia berkata Rasulullah SAW pernah bersabda, Aku pernah memeriksa surga, maka kulihat kebanyakan penghuninya adalah orang-orang fakir. Dan pernah pula aku memeriksa neraka, maka kulihat kebanyakan kebanyakan penghuninya adalah kaum wanita.”
Bagaimana mungkin Rasulullah SAW melihat berbagai siksaan atas orang-orang yang masuk neraka tersebut, padahal saat itu masih belum terjadi hari penghisaban seluruh amal perbuatan ?. Hal ini bisa saja terjadi ketika saat itu Allah memperlihatkan kepada beliau tentang dimensi masa depan ketika orang-orang yang durhaka itu telah disiksa di dalam neraka.
Selain itu, Rasulullah SAW banyak sekali mengeluarkan hadits tentang kejadian-kejadian di masa depan, seperti kejadian yang akan menimpa sahabat-sahabat beliau sepeninggalnya, kemunculan Dajjal, Imam Mahdi, Ya’juj Ma’juj, Nabi Isa AS dan banyak lagi. Mungkin sebagian besar berita-berita itu disampaikan oleh Allah melalui Jibril, tetapi tidak menutup kemungkinan kejadian-kejadian itu dialami beliau melalui mimpi sehingga seakan-akan beliau menyaksikan langsung kejadian di dimensi masa depan itu.
Salah satu hadits itu adalah peristiwa di akhir zaman tentang kehancuran Ka’bah. Imam Ahmad meriwayatkan dari Abdullah bin Amr bin Ash RA, dia berkata, Aku mendengar Rasulullah SAW bersabda, “ Ka’bah ini akan dirobohkan oleh Dzussuwaiqatain (Sang pemilik dua betis yang kecil) dari Habasyah. Dia merampas perhiasannya, dan melepas kiswahnya. Aku seakan-akan melihatnya, orangnya kecil botak dengan tulang-tulang persendian bengkok sedang menghantam Ka’bah dengan sekop dan kapaknya.”
Walaupun Rasulullah tidak langsung pergi menuju ke masa depan, tetapi penampakan masa depan di hadapan beliau telah sering sekali ditampakkan oleh Allah untuknya sebagai mukjizat dan kabar untuk generasi selanjutnya.
