Dalam pidato emosionalnya Brandis mengatakan kalau aksi Hanson berisiko memicu kemarahan lebih dari 500 ribu warga Australia yang memeluk agama Islam. ”Aksi Anda itu mengolok-olok komunitas. Adalah tindakan mengerikan karena Anda sudah mengejek pakaian religius mereka. Saya akan meminta Anda merenungkan apa yang telah Anda lakukan,” sambungnya. Ditambahkan Brandis, ”Tidak Senator Hanson, kami tidak akan melarang penggunaan burka.”

Dalam pernyataannya secara online, Hanson mengatakan kalau mereka harus melarang penggunakan burka yang menutup seluruh bagian tubuh. Karena itu adalah isu penting yang dihadapi Australia modern.
