Kisah ini mungkin telah sering kita dengar. Namun, sekedar mengingatkan kembali tentang perjuangan wanita mulia ini, semoga dapat mengembalikan ghirah kita untuk juga bisa menteladani beliau, wanita yang ‘berhati baja’.
Beliau adalah Nusaibah Binti Ka’ab radhiyallahu anha, namanya tercatat dalam tinta emas penuh kemuliaan. Bahkan kematiannya mengundang ribuan malaikat untuk menyambutnya.
Hari itu Nusaibah sedang berada di dapur. Suaminya, Said sedang beristirahat di bilik tempat tidur. Tiba-tiba terdengar suara gemuruh bagaikan gunung-gunung batu yang runtuh. Nusaibah menerka, itu pasti tentara musuh. Memang, beberapa hari ini ketegangan memuncak di kawasan Gunung Uhud. Dengan bergegas, Nusaibah meninggalkan apa yang sedang dilakukannya dan masuk ke bilik. Suaminya yang sedang tertidur dengan halus dan lembut dikejutkannya.
“Suamiku tersayang”, Nusaibah berkata, “Aku mendengar pekik suara menuju ke Uhud. Mungkin orang-orang kafir telah menyerang.”
Said yang masih belum sadar sepenuhnya, tersentak. Dia menyesal mengapa bukan dia yang mendengar suara itu. Malah isterinya. Dia segera bangun dan mengenakan pakaian perangnya. Sewaktu dia menyiapkan kuda, Nusaibah menghampiri. Dia menyodorkan sebilah pedang kepada Said.
“Suamiku, bawalah pedang ini. Jangan pulang sebelum menang.”
Said memandang wajah isterinya. Setelah mendengar perkataannya itu, tak pernah ada keraguan padanya untuk pergi ke medan perang. Dengan sigap dinaikinya kuda itu, lalu terdengarlah derap suara langkah kuda menuju ke utara. Said langsung terjun ke tengah medan pertempuran yang sedang berkecamuk. Di satu sudut yang lain, Rasulullah melihatnya dan tersenyum kepadanya. Senyum yang tulus itu semakin mengobarkan keberanian Said.
Di rumah, Nusaibah duduk dengan gelisah. Kedua anaknya, Amar yang baru berusia 15 tahun dan Saad yang dua tahun lebih muda (13 tahun), memperhatikan ibunya dengan pandangan cemas. Ketika itulah tiba-tiba muncul seorang penunggang kuda yang nampaknya sangat gugup.
“Ibu, salam dari Rasulullah,” berkata si penunggang kuda, “Suami Ibu, Said baru sahaja gugur di medan perang.
Beliau syahid…”
Nusaibah tertunduk sebentar, “Inna lillah…..” gumamnya, “Suamiku telah menang perang. Terima kasih, ya Allah.”
Setelah pemberi kabar itu meninggalkan tempat, Nusaibah memanggil Amar. Ia tersenyum kepadanya di tengah tangis yang tertahan.
“Amar, kaulihat Ibu menangis?.. Ini bukan air mata sedih mendengar ayahmu telah Syahid. Aku sedih karena tidak memiliki apa-apa lagi untuk diberikan pagi para pejuang Nabi. Maukah engkau melihat ibumu bahagia?”
Amar mengangguk. Hatinya berdebar-debar.
“Ambillah kuda di kandang dan bawalah tombak. Bertempurlah bersama Nabi hingga kaum kafir terhapus.”
Mata Amar bersinar-sinar. “Terima kasih, Ibu. Inilah yang aku tunggu sejak dari tadi. Aku ragu, seandainya Ibu tidak memberi peluang kepadaku untuk membela agama Allah.”
Putera Nusaibah yang berbadan kurus itu pun terus menderapkan kudanya mengikut jejak sang ayah. Tidak terlihat ketakutan sedikitpun dalam wajahnya. Di hadapan Rasulullah, ia memperkenalkan diri.
“Ya Rasulullah, aku Amar bin Said. Aku datang untuk menggantikan ayahku yang telah gugur.”
Rasul dengan terharu memeluk anak muda itu. “Engkau adalah pemuda Islam yang sejati, Amar. Allah memberkatimu….”
Hari itu pertempuran berlalu cepat. Pertumpahan darah berlangsung hingga petang. Pagi-pagi seorang utusan pasukan Islam berangkat dari perkemahan di medan tempur, mereka menuju ke rumah Nusaibah.
Setibanya di sana, wanita yang tabah itu sedang termangu-mangu menunggu berita, “Ada kabar apakah gerangan?..” serunya gemetar ketika sang utusan belum lagi membuka suaranya, “Apakah anakku gugur?..”
Utusan itu menunduk sedih, “Betul….”
“Inna lillah….” Nusaibah bergumam kecil. Ia menangis.
“Kau berduka, ya Ummu Amar?..”
Nusaibah menggeleng kecil. “Tidak, aku gembira. Hanya aku sedih, siapa lagi yang akan kuberangkatkan?.. Saad masih kanak-kanak.”
Mendengar itu, Saad yang sedang berada tepat di samping ibunya, menyela, “Ibu, jangan remehkan aku. Jika engkau izinkan, akan aku tunjukkan bahwa Saad adalah putera seorang ayah yang gagah berani.”
Nusaibah terperanjat. Ia memandang puteranya. “Kau tidak takut, nak?..”
Saad yang sudah meloncat ke atas kudanya menggeleng, yakin. Sebuah senyum terhias di wajahnya. Ketika Nusaibah dengan besar hati melambaikan tangannya, Saad hilang bersama utusan tentara itu.
Di arena pertempuran, Saad betul-betul menunjukkan kemampuannya. Pemuda berusia 13 tahun itu telah banyak menghempaskan nyawa orang kafir. Hingga akhirnya tibalah saat itu, yakni ketika sebilah anak panah menancap di dadanya. Saad tersungkur mencium bumi dan menyerukan, “Allahu Akbar!..”
Kembali Rasulullah memberangkatkan utusan ke rumah Nusaibah.
Mendengar berita kematian itu, Nusaibah meremang bulu tengkuknya. “Hai utusan,” ujarnya, “Kau saksikan sendiri aku sudah tidak memiliki apa-apa lagi. Hanya masih tersisa diriku yang tua ini. Untuk itu izinkanlah aku ikut bersamamu ke medan perang.”
Sang utusan mengerutkan keningnya. “Tapi engkau wanita, ya Ibu….”
Nusaibah tersinggung, “Engkau meremehkan aku karena aku wanita?.. Apakah wanita tidak ingin pula masuk ke Syurga melalui jihad?..”
Nusaibah tidak menunggu jawaban dari utusan tersebut. Ia bergegas menghadap Rasulullah dengan mengendarai kuda yang ada.
Tiba di sana, Rasulullah mendengarkan semua perkataan Nusaibah. Setelah itu, Rasulullah pun berkata dengan senyum.
“Nusaibah yang dimuliakan Allah. Belum masanya wanita mengangkat senjata. Untuk sementara engkau kumpulkan saja obat-obatan dan rawatlah tentara yang luka-luka. Pahalanya sama dengan yang bertempur.”
Mendengar penjelasan Nabi demikian, Nusaibah pun segera menenteng obat-obatan dan berangkatlah ke tengah pasukan yang sedang bertempur.
Dirawatnya mereka yang mengalami luka-luka dengan cermat. Pada suatu saat, ketika ia sedang menunduk dan memberi minum seorang prajurit muda yang luka-luka, tiba-tiba rambutnya terkena percikan darah. Nusaibah lalu memandang. Ternyata kepala seorang tentara Islam tergolek, tewas terbabat oleh senjata orang kafir.
Timbul kemarahan Nusaibah menyaksikan kekejaman ini.
Apalagi ketika dilihatnya Rasulullah terjatuh dari kudanya akibat keningnya terserempet anak panah musuh. Nusaibah tidak dapat menahan diri lagi, menyaksikan hal itu.
Ia bangkit dengan gagah berani. Diambilnya pedang prajurit yang tewas itu.
Dinaiki kudanya. Lantas bagaikan singa betina, ia mengamuk.
Musuh banyak yang terbirit-birit menghindarinya. Puluhan jiwa orang kafir pun tumbang.
Hingga pada suatu waktu ada seorang kafir yang mengendap dari arah belakang, dan langsung menebas putus lengan kirinya. Nusaibah pun terjatuh, terinjak-injak oleh kuda. Peperangan terus berjalan. Medan pertempuran makin menjauh, sehingga tubuh Nusaibah teronggok sendirian.
Tiba-tiba Ibnu Mas’ud menunggang kudanya, mengawasi kalau-kalau ada orang yang bisa ditolongnya. Sahabat itu, begitu melihat ada tubuh yang bergerak-gerak dengan susah payah, dia segera mendekatinya. Dipercikannya air ke muka tubuh itu.
Akhirnya Ibnu Mas’ud mengenalinya, “Isteri Said-kah engkau?..”
Nusaibah samar-sama memperhatikan penolongnya. Lalu bertanya, “Bagaimana dengan Rasulullah?.. Selamatkah baginda?..”
“Baginda Rasulullah tidak kurang suatu apapun…”
“Engkau Ibnu Mas’ud, bukan?.. Pinjamkan kuda dan senjatamu kepadaku….”
“Engkau masih terluka parah, Nusaibah….”
“Engkau mau menghalangi aku untuk membela Rasulullah?..”
Terpaksa Ibnu Mas’ud menyerahkan kuda dan senjatanya. Dengan susah payah, Nusaibah menaiki kuda itu, lalu menderapkannya menuju ke medan pertempuran. Banyak musuh yang dijungkirbalikkannya. Namun karena tangannya sudah buntung, akhirnya tak urung juga lehernya terbabat putus oleh sabetan pedang musuh.
Gugurlah wanita perkasa itu ke atas pasir. Darahnya membasahi tanah yang dicintainya.
Tiba-tiba langit berubah mendung, hitam kelabu. Padahal tadinya langit tampak cerah dan terang benderang. Pertempuran terhenti sejenak.
Rasul kemudian berkata kepada para sahabatnya,
“Kalian lihat langit tiba-tiba menghitam bukan?.. Itu adalah bayangan para malaikat yang beribu-ribu jumlahnya. Mereka berduyun-duyun menyambut kedatangan arwah Nusaibah, wanita yang perkasa.”
